After almost a decade of carrying around this uninvited guest that lurks deep in my brain, I have to admit the honeymoon is definitely over. Rarely does a day go by, in spite of an increasing amount of medication, when I feel Parkinson-free. Because of being constantly in motion due to tremors and dyskinesia, my body weight and clothing size continue to diminish. My sweet-tooth is very happy though; now I can eat cake and ice-cream whenever I want! I no longer consider it an indulgence, but rather a necessity!
Throughout my journey, Parkinson Society BC has always been there for me and the 15,000 others in the province who are in this unique club. PSBC continues to provide an ever-expanding variety of programs and resources that empower those of us living with PD, to stay informed and engaged in our health and wellness. From counselling to exercise programs, from educational webinars to online newsletters and publications, we have access to myriad resources. There is also outstanding support for our Caregivers, who are shouldered with complex responsibilities as this disease progresses.
I want to give a big 'shout out' to the PSBC staff. Every time they answer a call or respond to a request they are patient, kind, caring, accessible, and knowledgeable. It is truly an outstanding organization!
Of course, all this work takes money and more money and even more money! Without your generous support, our lifeline wobbles, the advocacy and research become diminished and in some cases, archived.
With Deep Gratitude,
Debbie
