Thank you for visiting my Personal Page and thank you for supporting our Parkinsons cause!
As many of you know this has been an exciting yet very stressful year for myself and my loved ones.
The success of my DBS surgery is now allowing me to do things that 6 months or a year ago
I would not thought possible. Recently I started running again and it’s while I’m running, I finally feel like my old self. I look forward to running this 5k on September 10th in Stanley park, and I look forward to anyone joining me!
Going through that process, and all the challenges faced in the past has made me realize that more needs to be done to help provide others with the benefits I have received. The process has also
made me aware of all the great progress being made to battle this debilitating disease. Progress that is close at hand and that will be changing lives like it has done for me. As many of you know my
deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery occurred on (fittingly) World Parkinsons Day and a day later the Michael J. Fox Foundation announced that a bio marker was created to detect Parkinsons with
a high level of confidence. This is a major breakthrough. Now people without symptoms can be diagnosed creating the opportunity to take preventative measures and prepare for whats coming and give
direction to researchers of finding novel treatment paths.
Beyond that there are numerous treatments and experimental drugs being developed at this time that will slow and potentially eliminate the disease. Really good and exciting developments are close at hand but that takes money.
So know that by contributing to our fundraiser that you are helping to inch along those developments and providing much needed support for those going through this journey.
This year, we are walking under the team name PDAvengers, as we did in the past, but in support of this Global group started by my friend Larry Gifford. Larry and his ever supportive family, Rebecca and Henry, will not be with us this year, as they are getting ready for Larry’s DBS surgery in October . Please consider joining this group, take a look, it’s going to be the source of all good things to come in the future of Parkinson’s!
