September is just around the corner, and along with the cooler temperatures is the annual Parkinson SuperWalk . This is the largest annual fundraiser undertaken by Parkinson Society of BC, the provincial organization that supports those of us, and our families, living with Parkinson's Disease.
On Saturday, September 7 you'll find me on the Kelowna waterfront walking alongside family and friends, determined to face this persistent neurological nuisance head-on! Although I continue to be highly functional, positive, and active I'm increasingly aware this is a degenerative disease. I am so grateful for medication, wise and caring doctors, love and support from my family and friends, and Green Shield extended health coverage! And all those exercise classes!
Back to this Fundraiser thing. Our Kelowna "Partners in Parkinson's" is the largest Support Group in the province~ who knew! Garry remains chair of the steering committee and I continue in the role of secretary. This takes a big chunk of our time but is oh so worth it! I manage a 130 member data-base and we have monthly meetings that almost always include a speaker/ education component. And of course, there's my Good Vibrations ladies support group as well. We continue to meet the second Thursday of each month in each other's homes.
Oops ~ I meant to stay on the topic of Fundraising. The Kelowna campaign raised the most MONEY of any group in the province last year, and so did our Good Vibrations group. All this MONEY goes directly to PSBC, who in turn use it to support all of us! It's clearly a win-win.
Hmmm ~ win-win has a nice ring to it. Our Kelowna support group is very proud of last year's achievenet and would like to win again this year and raise even MORE MONEY! If you donated to the cause last year, thank you, and maybe you could add another $5 to your donation this year. If you forgot all about it last year could I encourage you to donate to my page this year? Any amount is helpful; $5 to $5000 and anything in-between will be gratefully appreciated. You'll notice I'm sending this request late in the game, which doesn't give you much time to procrastinate!
