As I write this note, I am hopeful we have all safely come through this life-changing experience of isolating, self-distancing and wearing masks, and can now hug our friends and family, share meals, trade stories and lies, and find our way back to a "new normal", as yet to be defined. Our scientists have done a remarkable job of developing effective vaccines to quell the virulent COVID-19 virus. If only a cure for Parkinson's Disease were this close, we'd all be happy campers!
Eight years since my diagnosis have slid by in the blink of an eye. Most days I'm still able to carry on almost normally, but admittedly, there are some parts of some days when the PD wins. I accept that this is a degenerative disease but it's not taking me out without a fight! Exercise, Attitude, and Gratitude are my allies in this battle and so far, I AM THE WINNING TEAM!
Having said that, my greatest support of all is the Parkinson Society of BC. Throughout this COVID period they have been amazing in designing and expanding a myriad of programs to support members virtually. There is something for everyone: weekly webinars on a wide variety of PD- specific topics, updates on research, a book club to encourage ongoing dialogue and community, virtual exercise activities such as dance, voice, yoga, stretching classes, and even a gardening club. The wonderful staff, all working from their homes, have consistently reached out to the membership to ensure our needs have been met, and then some! They are creative, caring, patient, responsive, and always accessible!
Our annual province-wide fundraiser ~ SuperWalk ~ this year to be held on the weekend of September 11 & 12, will be virtual once again. The staff at PSBC has gone above and beyond to make this virtual walk interesting and accessible to everyone.
My Personal Donation Page is also linked to my Good Vibrations Team, so anything you donate to me personally gives our GV Team credit as well. The Good Vibrations ladies get great value from sharing our knowledge, notes, hurdles, and hurrahs.
SuperWalk is the most important fundraiser of the year and PSBC needs your support more than ever to be able to carry on providing the programs, support services, educational resources and advocacy that people with Parkinson's, their families and care-partners rely on. Any amount you can afford is deeply appreciated: $20 • $200 • $2000 • or anything in between! Your pledge of $20 or more is tax deductible and you will receive a tax receipt from PSBC. I encourage you to NOT procrastinate. With Sincerity I Thank You ~ Debbie
