Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the change in structure of Parkinson SuperWalk for 2023, please be advised that some of the PDF instructions that contain images in our FAQs below may look slightly different than the website this year.

Donations

 

  1. Go to Parkinson SuperWalk home page by clicking Home at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Donate button.
  3. Type in the First and/or Last Name of the walker you would like to donate to. Hit Return key.
  4. Click on the Donate Now button next to the walker's name you are donating to.
  5. Complete the donation fields and click Submit.

A general donation is made to Parkinson SuperWalk and NOT to an individual walker. If you would like to make a general donation, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Parkinson SuperWalk home page by clicking Home at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Donate button.
  3. Click on If you do not wish to donate to a specific Walker, please make a General Donation here.
  4. Complete the fields for the Gift, Billing, and Payment Information. Click Submit.

If you cannot find the walker once you have followed the instructions on How to Donate to a Walker, please contact the walker to see if they have registered as a walker on the website. You may only donate online to a walker who has registered online.

If the walker does not intend to register online, you may give your donation to the walker by cash or cheque so that they may hand in the donation on walk day. Cheques are to be made payable to Parkinson Society BC.

During the donation process, the donor may have chosen to remain anonymous or hidden their donation amount displayed on your "Top Donors" list.

If you would like to see your complete list of donations, login to your Participant Page and click the Progress tab. Scroll down the page to view your list of donations.

If you have received cash, cheque, or e-transfer donations from others, you cannot retain these funds and then add them to your fundraising efforts by making a lump-sum payment with your personal credit card. If you try to make a lump-sum payment using your personal credit card, your donors will not receive their tax receipt as the system will think that you are making a personal donation. Please follow the instructions here.

Registration

 

  1. Click Register button on the Parkinson SuperWalk homepage.
  2. Click on your Walk Location.
  3. Verify your walk location information. Click Register as an Individual.
  4. Choose your participant type, fundraising goal, and make a donation to kick start your campaign. Click Next Step.
  5. Click on Join as a New Participant.
  6. Complete the registration fields. Write down your username and password for future use and follow the prompts.
  7. Click Complete Registration when done.

  4. You will be the team captain. Type in your team name and team fundraising goal. Click Next Step.
  5. Choose your participant type, fundraising goal, and make a donation to kick start your campaign. Click Next Step.

  7. Complete the registration fields. Write down your username and password for future use and follow the prompts.
  8. Click Complete Registration when done.

If you cannot find the team in the team search by typing in the full team name, try typing in Team or one word from the team name. This will broaden your search results.

If the search still does not yield results, contact the person who is meant to be your team captain to see if they have registered on the website.

A team will not appear until the team captain has registered on the Parkinson SuperWalk BC website.

You may also choose to be the team captain and register the team. Go back to the previous page and click Create A Team. Click here for instructions on how to create a team.

 

  1. Click Register button on the Parkinson SuperWalk homepage.
  2. Click on your Walk Location.
  3. Verify your walk location information. Click Register as an Individual.
  4. Choose your participant type, fundraising goal, and make a donation to kick start your campaign. Click Next Step.
  5. Click on Join as a New Participant.
  6. Complete the registration fields. Write down your username and password for future use and follow the prompts.
  7. Click Register Another Individual. Repeat the registration process for each new walker. Please enter the email address for each additional walker so that they may receive confirmation of their username and password.
  8. Click Complete Registration when done.

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. Click Change Team Membership located on the right-hand side.
  3. Type in the name of the team you would like to join. Click Search.
  4. Click Join Team beside the team you wish to join.
  5. Click Log Out at the top right of the page when done.

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. Click Change Team Membership located on the right-hand side.
  3. Click Participate as an Individual. Click Continue.

Unfortunately, once you have registered as an individual, you cannot create a new team from your Participant Centre. This may be done by staff at Parkinson Society BC. Please contact us at events@parkinson.bc.ca by email or by phone at 604-662-3240 or 1-800-668-3330 for help.

 

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. Click Team Page tab.
  3. Click Edit in the box under Team Name. Click Update.
  4. Click Log Out at the top right of the page when done.

Your Participant Centre

 

  1. Click Login at the top right of the screen.
  2. Type in your username and password and click Login.
  3. Click on your Parkinson SuperWalk location link. This will take you to the home page of your Participant Centre.
  4. Remember to Log Out at the top right of the page when done.

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. You will land on your Home page. Click Set Up Your Personal Page, #1, at the top left of the page.
  3. You will be able to type in your own subject line, personal story, upload your picture and create a user-friendly URL. Click Save when you are done.
  4. Click Log Out at the top right of the page when done.

Please be advised that we are aware an issue exists when users try to edit their personal pages using the browser Firefox. Until fixed, we recommend that you use Chrome as your browser.

 

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. You will land on your Home page. Add Contacts on the top left of the page.
  3. You will be have the option to add individual contacts one by one by clicking Add Contact or click Import contacts to import a group of contacts from your personal email account.

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. You will land on your Home page. Click Send an Email tab at the top left of the page.
  3. Select your recipients from your contact list or add your contacts first.
  4. Choose an email template from the Solicitation options, four email templates will appear. Click "Please Sponsor Me". You may use the other templates to follow-up on your donation request. It takes approximately 4 donation requests to receive a donation.
  5. You may add a personal greeting, edit the subject line and message. Click Save as Template for future use.
  6. You may create your own email message by clicking Other then Blank Message. Type in your subject line, donation request message and click Save as Template for future use.
  7. Preview and click Send.

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. You will land on your Home page. Click Thank your Donors on the left side of the page.
  3. Click on Donors under the Contacts section on the left-hand side of the screen.
  4. Select the recipients of your email.
  5. You may create your own email message by clicking Other then Blank Message. Type in your subject line, donation request message and click Save as Template for future use.
  6. To use a pre-created template, click on Dontation to Me under Thank You. You may add a personal greeting, edit the subject line and message. Click Save as Template for future use.
  7. Preview and click Send.

When you export your contacts from Outlook, you will need to save a copy of your contacts to a .CSV (Comma Separated Values) file on your computer. You can then import this contact file to your Parkinson SuperWalk Participant Page.

 

  1. In Outlook 2010 on a PC, choose File then click on Open.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Choose Export to a file. Click Next.
  4. Choose Comma Separated Values (Dos). Click Next.
  5. Select your Inbox to export from. Click Next.
  6. Type in your filename in the field. Click Browse and choose a location on your computer to save your contact file.
  7. Follow the prompts. Click Finish to export your contacts.

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. You will land on your Home page. Click Add Contacts on the left side of the page.
  3. Click Import Contacts on the far right of the page.
  4. A pop-up screen will appear. Click Import my Address Book Contacts and then Next.
  5. Click on Choose File and select the file you want to import. Open.
  6. Choose the contacts to import. Review your list. Click Next when done.
  7. Remember to Log Out when done.

  1. Login to your Participant Centre.
  2. You will land on your Home page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a Personal Donations section.
  3. Your Donation History will be here.
  4. Remember to Log Out when you exit your Participant Centre.

  2. You will land on your Home page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a Personal Donations section.
  3. Click Add. Complete the fields and click Add to save each gift.
  4. If you have additional cash or cheque donations, click Save and Add Another. Tax receipts are NOT issued from the website when you add cash or cheque donations.
  5. **Very Important:** You will still need to complete a pledge form with each donor's name, contact information and donation amounts. The completed pledge form with the cash and cheque donations are to be handed in at Check-in on Walk day.
  6. Click Log Out at the top right of the page when done.

There are two ways to message your team members. You can send an email to each of your team members or post a message to them that will appear in their Participant Centres if they have registered online.

General

We encourage you to use your social media, email, and phone calls to connect with individuals and let them know you are participating in SuperWalk. Where applicable, be sure to share a link to your participant page so people are able to donate to you directly online.

Personalize your ask. In your participant centre there are email templates which make requesting donations easier. However, most people are familiar with generic asks. If you add a personal touch by changing one to two sentences in the template, including adding your reasons for participating in Parkinson SuperWalk, you will be more likely to genuinely connect with your network.

The earlier you start fundraising the better! Remember, sometimes it takes multiple asks/reminders before a donation happens.

Yes, you may send donations that you have physically collected into the Parkinson Society BC office. However, we do not recommend sending cash by mail, so please total the monies on your form and then make out a cheque to Parkinson Society BC for the full amount. Along with this cheque you will need to include a completed pledge form, with all of your donors' information filled out, so that they receive a tax receipt if applicable.

Yes, we will still be offering incentive prizes for fundraising. Please see the Prizes and Incentives page for more information.

Please note that there is a cost for Parkinson Society British Columbia to provide gift card incentives to walkers. There is an option to opt-in/opt-out of this incentive upon registration, and the money saved will be invested to help British Columbians living with Parkinson's.

In order to qualify for incentive prizes, walkers are required to submit their Parkinson SuperWalk donation(s) by September 30, 2023. Donations will still be accepted after this date, but they will not tally towards incentive prize totals. Walkers will receive incentive prizes on or before December 31, 2023.
