Parkinson SuperWalk Monthly Challenges!

We are adapting to the new normal this year by bringing you an engaging virtual SuperWalk experience, with walk weekend taking place September 12th and 13th. As we continue to practice physical distancing for the health and safety of our communities, the event will help us carry on providing the programs, support services, educational resources, and advocacy that people with Parkinson’s, their families, and carepartners rely on.

This summer, you can take part in our monthly exercise and fundraising challenges leading up to SuperWalk’s opening ceremonies, which will be live streamed, on Saturday, September 12th. Learn more about this year’s event below.



Try three new activities!

To kick off the SuperWalk summer, we challenge you to start something new. Get active by trying a new yoga class, walking a new route, or finding an exercise program you've never done before. Not sure where to start? Check out our event listings to see the latest exercise programs hosted by Parkinson Society BC. If you haven't tried them already, we recommend:

Complete these fundraising challenges to be entered to win a $100 gift certificate from Save On Foods! Complete all steps for three entries into the draw.

  1. Register for Parkinson SuperWalk before June 30th (1 entry)
  2. Update the content on your personal fundraising page through the Participant Centre (1 entry)
  3. Send a photo of you completing a new activity to Cicely Ashley, cashley@parkinson.bc.ca, to be added to our SuperWalk celebration photos (1 entry)


Improve your exercise routine week over week.

This month, we challenge you to strengthen your exercise routine! Think about a weekly exercise goal that will help keep you as active as possible you can increase your step count, spend more time working out, take the long way home from running errands, or even just add one more set of exercises to your existing routine. Focus on finding the best way to improve your usual exercise habits, and stay motivated by setting your sights on your self-directed target.

To help you reach your goals, we've created a tracking sheet where you can record all of your daily exercises and improvements. If you feel inclined to do so, you can also keep a daily journal using this template. Be sure to check out our exercise tips here if you're not sure where to start, or need help staying motivated.

  2. Send an email this month through the Participant Centre asking a friend or family member to support your fundraising goal (1 entry)
  3. Raise $100 online this month to support your fundraising goal (1 entry)



Complete 13 exercise challenges this month to support the 13,500 people living with Parkinson's in British Columbia.

There are approximately 13,500 British Columbians living with Parkinson's disease. Help us honour each and every one by completing 13 exercise challenges this month! To help get you started, we've compiled a list of suggested activities.

Complete these fundraising challenges to be entered to win a FitBit Inspire HR! Complete all steps for three entries into the draw.

  1. Donate to another SuperWalk participant this month and help them reach their fundraising goal! (1 entry)
  2. Raise $200 online this month to support your fundraising goal (1 entry)
  3. Record a video featuring yourself exercising or a positive message to the Parkinson's community for a chance to be featured in our Opening Ceremonies. Videos can be sent to Cicely Ashley at cashley@parkinson.bc.ca (1 entry)



Join us online for our opening ceremonies on Saturday, September 12th at 10:00am! The celebration will feature special addresses from Parkinson Society British Columbia and members of the Parkinson's community. We welcome all participants to send in their own messages of support, and photos or videos from their exercise challenges for a chance to be featured! At the ceremonies, we will announce top fundraisers, teams, and communities, and our total amount raised over the summer.

After the Opening Ceremonies, we’ll send you off for the final SuperWalk exercise challenge! You can participate by walking in your local community (observing physical distancing), or joining us for a special exercise class following the opening ceremonies!
